Does your car crank?

This one question tells you a lot before you spend a dollar on parts.

No, it doesn't even crank

If the engine does not crank when you turn the key or press the Start button, the immobilizer system is one of the primary systems to investigate. A failed immobilizer can prevent the starter from being enabled, leaving the vehicle completely inoperative. Before replacing parts, verify the basic power supply circuits, then have the immobilizer professionally tested.

Immobilizer is the prime suspect

Yes, it cranks but won't start

If the engine cranks normally, the immobilizer has typically authorized engine starting. The problem is more likely the engine management system, fuel delivery, ignition, sensor inputs, or another vehicle system. Professional testing identifies the true source of the fault before unnecessary repairs are made.

What Causes Immobilizer Failure?

The most common reasons immobilizers fail

No two immobilizer failures are exactly alike. Water intrusion, leaking capacitors, corrosion, power-supply faults, communication failures, and remote synchronization issues are among the most common causes we see. Porsche immobilizers are particularly vulnerable to water damage because of their location beneath the driver's seat, while the Cayenne's Kessy (keyless entry, start and exit) module can fail and leave the car unable to detect the key or start. Ferrari and Maserati systems are more often affected by aging electronic components. Our testing identifies the actual failure before any repair decisions are made.
