Are you having trouble opening the trunk OR front hood (fronk) of your PORSCHE 911 (996) or BOXSTER (986) from 1997-2004?

 

Don't worry, we've got you covered. In this tutorial, we will explain how to open the trunk AND front hood (fronk) using the emergency trunk release procedure. We'll walk you through the steps of jacking up the car, removing the trim panel, and locating the cable you need to pull in order to open the trunk.

Follow these easy steps and you'll have your trunk open in no time!

This problem can happen due to the battery going flat, OR the car's immobilizer anti-theft alarm CLU getting water damaged under the driver's seat. 

This will cause the car not to open the trunk with the key fob or the regular button.

This emergency trunk release procedure is a way to open the trunk when the battery is dead:

  1. Jack up the car and remove the back left wheel.
  2. Take off the trim panel.
  3. Locate the cable that you'll need to pull in order to open the trunk.
  4. Pull the cable with force and the trunk should open.

Now to open the front hood, the cable to do this is located behind either, the driver's side, or passenger side headlight depending on what happened at the factory when the car was made. So you may have to check both sides.

  1. Jack up the car and remove the front tire.
  2. Take off the trim panel.
  3. Reach up behind the lights and feel for the cable
  4. Pull it with force and the hood will open.
